Born on her parents' farm in the Camp Creek Community a few miles south of Spearsville, Union Parish, Louisiana, Homie was the daughter of Joseph Cannon Rockett (14 Nov 1847–11 Apr 1929) and Mary Elizabeth Howell (23 Feb 1857–13 Mar 1945). On 5 April 1910, at the age of nineteen years, Homie Rockett married John Newton Futch, and they had one son, Buster Futch (15 Feb 1911–20 Dec 1974). A few years later, on 11 October 1917, Homie married Joseph Brooks Beaird. She was a Spearsville homemaker and member of the Mount Union Baptist Church. After her husband's death, Homie and Buster lived a few miles north of Farmerville.
