Joseph C. Rockett's Buggy

This photograph shows Joseph Cannon Rockett (14 Nov 1847–11 Apr 1929) and his daughter, Homie Rockett (25 July 1890–18 Sept 1986) in Rockett's buggy in front of the house of John Berry Adcock (13 Nov 1870–7 Sep 1937) in Bernice, Union Parish, Louisiana. The photograph was probably taken bewteen 1905 and 1910, a few years after Adcock built his house in Bernice. Joe Rockett was a farmer and local politician, and he served as the longterm president of both the Union Parish Farmer's Union and Singing School. His daughter, Homie, was a Spearsville and Farmerville housewife and homemaker. Johnny Adcock was a professional photographer and musician, and many Union Parish residents had their photographs made by the J. B. Adcock studio. He tuned pianos and published several hymns.
